About the Storyteller
Welcome to Ladles & Lore—a haven where every recipe unfolds as a story, and
every story whispers the secrets of kitchens past, and hearts united through
food and tradition.
Some recipes are more than just instructions; they are echoes of laughter in a
grandmother’s kitchen, the warmth of a letter sent to a child far from home,
the quiet hum of a story told by the fireside. Ladles and Lore was born from
such memories.
I’m Gouri, the humble storyteller behind these pages. The Himalayas are in my
roots, in my heart, and in the rhythm of my every breath. My heart beats for
the land of my forefathers—Uttarakhand, the Highlands of India—where every
mountain peak, every river, and every ancient village holds stories whispered
through generations. The lore carried through time are all woven into the
fabric of who I am.
I grew up surrounded by elders who would gather around the hearth, sharing
tales of the old days, ancient and local lores, stories of feasts, tales of mystical
ingredients, and the unbreakable bonds formed over a shared meal. Their
stories, passed down like precious heirlooms, sparked a passion in me—one
that would lead me to explore culinary traditions far and wide.
Food has always been more than sustenance—it carries stories, memories, and
the warmth of home. As a young mother, I continued this tradition, weaving
and spinning stories into bedtime conversations and later into letters for my
son while he was away at school. And when he grew older, I began gathering
recipes—scribbled notes meant to bring home a little closer, no matter how far
he wandered.
This space is an extension of that tradition—a collection of flavours, history
and stories meant to be savoured and passed down. It is for my son, my family,
for those who find comfort in the kitchen and for anyone who believes that a
meal can be a bridge between generations.
It is my ode to my son, to my culture, and to my tradition—a gift of love and nourishment. Through every recipe and story, I hope to pass down the warmth of home, the richness of tradition, and the magic of a shared meal.
That is the heart of Ladles & Lore—the belief that every meal tells a story.
Here, recipes are more than just a set of instructions; they are vessels of
nostalgia, threads that bind generations, and invitations to step back into the
warmth of a childhood kitchen, where the scent of spices and the cadence of
an old tale could transport you to another time.
So come, sit by the hearth, and join me as we stir up the past, one delightful
recipe at a time. Here, every dish is a story, and every story is a reminder that
food is a bridge that connects us to our heritage, our community, and to one
another.
Welcome to Ladles & Lore—where every ladle holds a memory, and every
recipe tells a tale.
